HOUSING ASSOCIATION
One of the housing associations that we work with had a problem with the foul drains in one of their flats. We have been asked to solve the problem. After extensive investigation we found that the pipe work had broken away from the concrete manhole and had sunk. Due to all services running along the pipework we had to hand dig down to the problem, replaced the broken and cracked pipe work and installed new pipes, making sure all is re-concreted and tarmacked as needed.
Domestic Property
The property’s foul run was blocking repeatedly, which we investigated and found that the run was pitch fibre pipe. The common problem with pitch fibre is that the pipe can get compressed by the weight of the ground, making the internal diameter of the pipe smaller, which very often leads to blockages. We dug down, exposed pipe work and cut out all pitch fibre from manhole to the house and installed a new 100mm plastic pipe. As this was the only toilet run from the property, we had to dig down and replace pipework all in one day. Completed successfully within a day, and backfilled, compacted and made good on the second day.
Local Public House in Bletchley, Milton Keynes
We were requested by one of our contractors to examine problematic foul drains in a pub in Bletchley. We have carried out camera survey of the drain runs and found a few faults, which we were able to show on a DVD to the client. We have made a few recommendations and the client then requested us to solve the problem. As the Y section of the pipe work had dropped, we broke out the concrete floor, dug down and installed a manhole/ access point. We backfilled and insured that it was running properly, concreted and made ready for re-tiling.
Kempston School (BEFORE)
The manhole in the boys’ toilets kept blocking. We could find no visible reason for this to happen. During further investigation we noticed that the bend in the manhole was quite sharp and the concrete plug was not a smooth surface, enabling debris to catch and to cause a blockage.
Kempston School (AFTER)
We broke up the manhole, installed a new slow bend, cut an inspection point into our new pipework and concreted the base of the manhole up to our inspection point.
NHS Care home
One of the NHS care homes kept flooding in heavy rain. We have been requested to urgently examine possible solutions, as each time the building flooded it had to be closed for cleaning and sterilising. We came up with a plan to install acco drains across the front and the entrance of the building, as well as to upgrade the rain water drain pipe work to 150mm which then should be able to cope with the large amount of water during heavy down pours. The solution seemed to work very well and the site has not had these problems since.
